How often should I have my chimney inspected?
The National Fire Prevention Association recommends that chimneys be inspected annually and cleaned as needed.
  • Oil furnace flues every 2 years
  • Gas furnace flues every 5 years
  • Fireplaces, after burning 1/2 - 1 cord of wood
  • Wood and pellet stoves annually
What is a Standard Cleaning?
Cleaning involves the use of brushes to clean the chimney walls. A filtered vacuum is used to prevent soot and creosote from entering the home. Standard Cleaning also includes a closed circuit camera inspection.

Why do I need to hire a chimney professional when converting from oil to gas, or changing my heating system?
MA State code requires all new appliances to vent on either new stainless steel or aluminum liners.

Should I have a chimney cap installed?
Yes. Caps are designed to protect obstruction from snow, sleet, water, animals, birds, leaves, twigs, and other debris which could lead to a blockage or chimney fire.

What is the difference between repointing and rebuilding of a chimney?
Repointing is the process of removing deteriorating mortar from the joints of a masonry wall or chimney and replacing it with new mortar. Rebuilding is the removal and disposal of masonry and mortar, and replacing it with new bricks and mortar.
